Fish & Species ID Graphic Panel for"The Map"®
at La Jolla Shores
Announcement for the 2nd Call

Friends of La Jolla Shores thanks all of the photographers who submitted photos for the Fish & Species ID Graphic Panel for “The Map”® at La Jolla Shores. We received several beautiful photographs representing the majority of the species depicted on “The Map”®, which we have compiled and forwarded to our judges. We did, however, fall short on some of the more challenging species to photograph, and we are announcing a second call for the following species:
- California Grunion
- Gray Smoothhound Shark
- Mantis Shrimp
- White Seabass
- California Barracuda
- Northern Anchovy
- Pacific Mackerel
- Pacific Bonito – Close-up
- Black Abalone – Need photo of living animal
- Western Sandpiper (other species received, including Godwits and Sanderlings – but no Western Sandpipers
The second call will end on midnight, Pacific Daylight Time on December 5, 2010. Winners for all submissions will be announced on December 15, 2010.
Please follow the same instructions below for submitting photos for any of the 2nd Call species listed above. Many thanks, again, for your participation!
Friends of La Jolla Shores announces an open call for underwater photographers to submit their photos for the Fish & Species ID Photo Graphic Panel that will be displayed adjacent to “The Map”® in Kellogg Park, La Jolla Shores. The photos will be used for identification of each of the 62 fish & species represented by life-sized bronze embeds in “The Map”® and found offshore in the La Jolla Shores Underwater Park & Ecological Reserves.
Photographers, this is your chance to have your photo, with photo credit, beautifully displayed on a High Pressure Laminate Graphic Panel in 12 color HD Printing™ for approximately 5 years, while contributing to the educational and interactive nature of this interpretative learning center. 2-3 million visitors enjoy the park every year and your photos will help them to learn about our local marine ecology. ALL submissions will be included on our website (www.friendsoflajollashores.com) for educational purposes.
Prizes include:- 2 Night Stay at La Jolla Shores Hotel
- Trip aboard The Humboldt to Wreck Alley (Waterhorsecharters.com)
Note: Winners will be determined by a drawing. One ticket will be entered into the drawing for each photograph selected.

Entry Guidelines
Entry Deadline
Deadline for submissions is midnight, Pacific Daylight Time on October 15, 2010.
Entries
There are no limits to the number of photos you can submit, but please be reasonable and only submit your best images. There is no entry fee!
A qualified panel of judges will select the photos that will be displayed on the Species ID Photo Graphic Panel. Their decisions are final.
Photo Specifications
Photos submitted for review must meet the following specifications.
- 800 pixels on the longest side
- 72 dpi
- sRGB color profile
- JPEG format on the highest quality setting
Note: if your photo is selected for use, we will require a higher resolution version of the image for printing (guidelines will be provided).
Selection Criteria:
- Photo of one of the species identified on the List of Species below
- Species shown in their native habitat (La Jolla Shores preferred, but not required)
- Appropriate for instructional purposes
- Technically sound and well composed (species as main subject with minimal distractions)
- Subject in focus and shown with technically accurate proportions (little or no distortion)
- Visible identifying characteristics of the species
- Accurate colors without distortion
NOTE: Aquarium shots will be considered, but species shown in their native habitat are preferred. Ideally the subject would be photographed at La Jolla Shores.
Rights
By submitting your photos for consideration, you are confirming that:
- You own all rights, title and interest in and to the photo(s)
- The photo(s) are your original work
- The photo(s) does/do not infringe on the intellectual property or other rights of any other person or entity
- You have all of the necessary rights and authority to submit the photo(s) for consideration and public display in print, electronic and all other mediums, including but not limited to copyright and any necessary model releases.
- You will retain all rights to any photograph you submit, including ownership if applicable.
How to Submit Your Photographs
Send your submissions to us by uploading them to our Gallery website at http://www.stellalunaproductions.com/gallery. Please follow these steps:
- Click the Register link and complete the information to set up your account. An automated email will be sent to you.
- Activate your account by clicking the link in the email.
- Login and add your photos. In the Caption field under each photograph, please include the species, your name and the URL of your website (if applicable).
